Dammam: Work is under way to complete the Gulf rail project, which is currently in the design stage, said Minister of Transport and Chairman of the Board of the Saudi Ports Authority Abdullah Al-Moqbil.
GCC ministers of transport are closely following up on developments of the project and are working to eliminate any obstacles to the project which is designed to serve the inhabitants of the region, he said.
"The minister’s comments came during the inauguration of the Al-Zamil Complex for Ship Building and Repair at the King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam on Thursday.
He said all Saudi ports, especially the King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, receive extensive support and attention from the state due their pivotal role in serving economic activities within the commercial and industrial sectors in the Kingdom. Numerous development projects over the years have significantly elevated port facilities, equipment and capacities, he said.
Al-Zamil Complex covers an area of 220,000 square meters, and includes a marina with a capacity of 7,200 tons, a length of 102 meters and a width of 32 meters. Ships can be transported from the marina to a designated area for building and repair, which can accommodate more than 10 ships at one time. Source: arabnews.
